If you have a recycling center near you they usually accept e-scrap on certain days. Some may accept them at any time. You could always give them a call to see.
First thing that I would do is check with the store that you bought it at. Apple, Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, and Staples all have e-waste recycling programs for items bought at their stores.
The next thing that you should try is contacting you local trash and recycling program. Many municipalities have recycling drop-offs for electronics.
Last, if you really wanted to look into it, there is a good amount of money in recycling computers. Starting with the precious metals that are used and all the microchips and things.
Above all, remember to erase and remove your harddrive before recycling. There is tons of valuable information on there that you wouldn’t want other people to get their hands on.
you can recycle computers at almost any place you can buy them.
I’d say Best Buy

I would try to sell it to a metal recycler. Computers have metals people make money off of recycling.
Why not approach your local adult school or high school? I am an adult school computer repair teacher and I depend on donations from individuals and businesses to keep my classes going. As students learn how to repair computers, they will eventually make a mistake that will make the unit not work anymore. When this happens, we get the computer gear to a recycling facility so it can be disposed of in the right way. In the meantime, my students get equipment to work on that does not cost the school any money.
When we get fairly new equipment, my students rebuild it, put on free software and then we find needy individuals or organizations to donate them to. Either way, your old equipment gets a second chance to be of use to the community.
My husband takes in old computers that people no longer wants and rebuilds them……
Habitat for humanity will take most computer parts and they get good use.
I go thru the computer and wipe out the hard drive of old data and reload it with a new operating system and donate it to a needy family!
