Throwing away an old universal remote…e-waste?

I’ve heard that if you do not dispose of old electronics properly, that they will cause further damage to the environment. I have on old unviversal remote that no longer works and I don’t just want to chunck it in the trash. I live in rural Alabama & I’m not sure of any recycling places nearby, is there somewhere I can send it?

All waste removal facilities have a hazardous waster drop off location. It is often located at the landfill, dump or transfer station. If you are making a tip them make it worth it, check the shed and garage for any old paints, cleaners, pesticides, solvents, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, spray cans etc and take them with you, they are all hazardous waste and shouldn’t go into the garbage. Go to http://www.earth911.com to find a local hazardous waste center.
