USB Flash Drive: New autorun.inf and ReCyCleR Virus?
I cannot format or edit/delete anything from my 8GB Transient Pen Drive. There is no read-write switch.
Additionally, there are two extra hidden icons (Virus?) on the USB drive:
autorun.inf and
ReCyCleR (Recycler does not get listed in the command prompt.)
autorun.inf contains the following lines:
[AuToRuN]
UsEaUtOpLaY=1
ShElLOpEn=Open
ShElLOpEnCoMmAnD=ReCyCleRsEtuP.exe
OPeN=ReCyCleRsEtUp.exe
Norton does not find a virus in autorun.inf and is unable to scan ReCyCleR (unable to open file exclusively)
I have already changed the following registry values in Win XP to 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrent
ControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrent
ControlSetServicesUsbStorStart
Starting the computer using the Vista repair mode (DOS) too opens the drive in read only mode.
Additionally, running chkdsk at the command prompt gives the message:
Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.
Since the pen drive opens in read-only mode, I am absolutely clueless as to what to do.
Can someone please help me out?

Download the free trial version of O&O safe erase, and try to erase the files (paricularily the autorun).
If it is malware it looks like the autorun make it open in read only mode (using Recycler) and preventing you from doing anything.
If that doesnt work, double check that you haven’t enabled read only by mistake (click properties of the usb and make sure read only isnt checked).
If neither of those solves it, I’d suggest downloading malwarebytes antimalware (free) and running a virus scan on it, as mwb has a high detection rate of new threats.
to remove autorun.inf try this:
start->run->type cmd
in the command prompt type the label of the usb flash drive(eg. g:)
and then type attrib -h
it’ll show the autorun.inf file(if it doesn’t then autorun.inf is not infected)
now type del /f/a autorun.inf
one problem solved.
