    It could be a virus.
Go to your task manager (CRTL+ALT+DEL) > file > New Task > type explorer.exe
Then I would go get Spy Bot Search & Destroy and scan your computer for a virus.

Try entering the pc in safe mode by pressing F8 after the keyboard light flashes on boot up. While in safe mode run the system restore by right clicking computer, properties. Click "Advanced System Settings", click the system protection tab and click the "System Restore" button. From there just follow the steps to restore it to an earlier time. This WILL NOT erase you files, only repair Windows. If this does not work you may have a virus infection.

In the event it does not work, boot back into safe mode and run a full virus and spyware scan. If you don’t have those, I would recommend Kaspersky Internet Security, Trend Micro Internet Suite, or Avast Professional. Once the scan has completed and disinfected, run Ccleaner (free from their site) AND JV16 powertools (trial, but still works). Do this after the virus/spyware scan to ensure that the viruses don’t leave traces behind to reinstall on boot. If you suspect a virus infection always scan in safe mode, as most viruses don’t run in safe mode. A virus scanner can not remove a running virus.

If this does not work, be sure to back up any important files and restore the operating system by rebooting the computer with the operating system or windows disc in the tray. Follow the steps and be sure to format the drive. THIS WILL PUT YOUR COMPUTER IN THE STATE IT WAS IN WHEN YOU PURCHASED IT. Be sure you have saved your important files before proceeding with this step, it will wipe out everything…. Good luck.

The free virus/spyware software’s others have recommended do not have real-time scanners. Unless you run the scanner, the threat will not be found. This gives a virus the opportunity to install. Once it is installed, getting rid of it becomes more complicated.
