Where can I legally get rid of e-waste & old paint cans?

I live in the Reno/Sparks area.

check with your city offices. Oftentimes they have a city wide recycling day where you can bring all your questionable or toxic recycling. Or they can direct you to a recycler who will take them.
Note: When I have leftover latex paint I pour it out to dry. I have a 2×4 frame onto which I have loosely stapled heavy mil black plastic. I pour the paint onto the plastic (on clear sunny days) allow it to dry, break it up and place it in garbage, and then dispose of the cans.

As a liquid it is hazardous waste. if it is dry it isn’t. Open the cans and stir them up the leave the lid off until it drys up and gets hard. That is what I do. Then I depose it in my waste container. I have never had a problem with waste management, and I am sure they would say something if it was wrong.

Some cities have recycling centers. That specialize in old paints oil and such. Check your phone book. There is a place near me on the other side of the country that does that. Should be someplace near you.

If you chunk them in the trash the city can fine you a pretty penny. Call the sanitation department and ask them what to do with it. Some cities have certain pick-up dates for those things while others ask that you drive it to a special place that disposes of chemicals.
