Windows XP RECYCLER issue?
When I double click on my C and E drives, I get a box that pops up and says: "Windows cannot find ‘RECYCLERS-4-0-41-100029326-100007903-100003426-5951.com’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
I can however still get to the drives, I just have to go through Windows Explorer.
Also, my computer has a tendency to freeze up at random times, so I’m assuming this is a virus of some sort? I have both Spyware Doctor and AVG, and neither has detected anything serious.
And when I plug my external hard drive into my laptop, the computer slows down even more. My virus protection programs haven’t detected anything on that either.
I’ve gotten mixed messages when I try to look up my problem. I’ve heard that the RECYCLER folder is a hidden folder in your recycle bin, yet I can’t find it at all. I have seen it a few times, once in my WINDOWS folder, and another time on my external hard drive.
Overall, I’m mostly confused. If someone does know how to fix this problem, I’d be eternally grateful.
Thank you for reading this!
What I mean by my computer hasn’t picked up anything serious, is that I got one adware bug I think. I don’t have any malicious viruses on my computer, or detected any.
NEVER MIND I FIXED IT MYSELF.
What worked for me, was I went to Folder Options, checked "show hidden file types" and unchecked "hide protected operating system files".
Next, I went into my C drive (through Windows Explorer) and deleted autorun.inf.
Did the same thing for my E drive
Then I restarted my computer.
Or you can go Start>Run, and type in this:
c: attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf
or e: attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf

WOW that sounds messed. And when you say that your anti-virus software hasn’t detected anything SERIOUS, that means something is still detected? You should check it out.
Hi – I’m having the same issue! I hope someone can answer this for us…I’m having the exact same problems and issues and error messages pop up like you describe.
im having the same problem but i have found a temporary solution. i downloaded and installed AUTORUN EATER from download.com, it detects and removes the thing thats stopping the drives from being opened.
the problem is caused by the ‘autorun’ file and the ‘RECYCLER’ folder that something in the system is creating. AUTORUN EATER will remove it and allow the drives to be opened but it doesnt stop the virus from creating is again.
like i said its only a temporary solution so if anyone has any idea of how to get rid of it PLEASE HELP!!!
well that was easy… it turns out all you have to do is restart your computer when you delete the autorun and RECYCLER so it doesnt have a chance to pop up again.
